what i use /
Here are some things that I use in my daily life whether it be for work, personal use, coding/dev, and whatever else. This page is continually updated and if you have any suggestions, feel free to drop me a line.
Unfortunately, with the world we live in, lots of these apps and hardware items are proprietary and closed-source. For Apple stuff, I generally stick to the default apps because they are so well made.
Everyday Tech / Hardware
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Apple Music / Apple CarPlay
- Home PC - Custom built in 2015, updated in 2022-23:
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- ROG STRIX B550-F Motherboard
- nVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super
- Windows 11
- Logitech G815 Keyboard
- Logitech Pro Wireless Mouse
- Apple Watch Series 9 45mm
- Apple AirPods
- 13.5" Apple MacBook Air M2
- Synology DS214 w/ (2) 4GB HDDs
- Nintendo Switch
Drawing Setup
- XPPen Artist Pro 22
- Clip Studio Pro
Apps and Such
- Obsidian / Apple Notes - Obsidian for knowledge basing and organization, synced to GitHub and then to a personal dashboard/task engine I developed. Apple Notes for quick lists.
- Apple Calendar
- Apple Mail / Outlook
- Microsoft Teams - Work communication only. Otherwise I would never use it. Awful program.
- Bitwarden (soon to Vaultwarden)
- Discord - Something I used to love but has become annoying to use. But, my friends refuse to move off of it for any other platform, so stuck it is. Also for me, Revolt just isn't there yet.
- Firefox Developer Edition - My daily driver.
- Mozilla Firefox - My second browser.
- Code: VSCode (Windows) and Zed (MacOS)
- Version Control: Git
- Adobe Creative Suite - Mostly Illustrator and Photoshop. Lately I've been messing with PremierePro and AfterEffects.
- Radarscope - I've been using this for years, and it's what the pros use. Solid app. Very reliable. Great design. A lot of stuff has been slowly moved behind a paywall over the years and there are proabably better apps out there now, but it's still my go-to.
- Philips Hue - Controlling your home lights with your phone is a gamechanger.
Self Hosting
I don't currently have a dedicated self-hosting stack, but I'm working toward one. In the meantime, I pretty much use the OuterNet server as an experimental area for things like HomeHunter and ORBIT.
Personal Projects / Tools
- Blackbook - A personally developed financial forensics/intelligence app.
Things in Trial Mode
- Mozilla Thunderbird - Returning after many years. It's still awesome. However, very frustrating that I can't connect to my work's 365 server without a paid plugin.
- DaVinci Resolve - I've heard great things, and those things say it's a possible PremierePro killer and potential AfterEffects replacement.
- Affinity suite - I haven't downloaded them yet, and I've used them before, but I'm nearly getting to the point with Adobe that I just can't anymore. My work doesn't require me to use Adobe in any way and my boss would probably be thrilled to save money on a subscription nonetheless.
This site's stack
This website is just static HTML and the blog is just a simple homebrew PHP script that uses Parsedown for Markdown rendering although I will be moving to something else since that project is no longer maintained.
Currently, the website clocks in at 2.28kb and loads in ~0.0001 seconds.
This site is currently undergoing a re-vamp. Stay tuned.
